Toyota reveals new Land Cruiser

Toyota has shown off its all-new Land Cruiser for the UK market ahead of its official launch at the Frankfurt motor show.

The new Toyota Land Cruiser will be available in the UK exclusively with five doors and seven seats, with only one diesel engine option.

It's 3.0-litre D-4D engine will churn out 171 bhp and will be mated to a five-speed autobox. It has combined fuel economy of 14.7 kmpl and CO2 emissions of 214g/km, which Toyota claim are the best figures in its class.

The body-on-frame construction remains from the old model, but Toyota claims it has increased rigidity by 11 per cent. Insulating frame-to-body mounts have been added to absorb engine, drivetrain and road noise, and to improve ride comfort.

Higher spec models will be offered with a new electronic kinetic dynamic suspension system (KDSS), which adjusts the front and rear anti-roll bars for optimised on and off-road performance.

The top-spec LC5 model gets Toyotas adaptive variable suspension system (AVS) with roll posture control, which offers a choice of three damper settings. An electronically controlled rear air suspension system works with the AVS, providing an auto-leveling function and switchable height control.

A new multi-terrain select system feature automatically controls power and braking to optimise performance for different types of off-road surfaces. A multi-terrain monitor feeds real time images from around the vehicle from a network of four cameras to provide the driver with more information about the immediate surroundings.

Prices are expected to start at around 30,000 when it goes on sale on 1 December.

Toyota has also launched its redesigned Land Cruiser Prado in Japan. This would be the fourth generation Prado and it gets all the high-tech equipments like the Kinetic Dynamic Suspension System, Crawl-control feature, a Multi-terrain select switch, and the worlds first Multi-terrain Monitor which displays the road conditions around the vehicle taken by four onboard cameras.
